Key Stage 3 Curriculum Details:
Students have 2 or 3 lessons a week in the subject if they study German. They are assigned a language based on their form class. In Year 7, with 2 lessons a week, they learn simple introductions, how to describe themselves, their families and their free time activities. They will be expected to learn vocabulary and spellings and complete written German homework, and learn spoken work off by heart. They will normally have 1 piece of homework per week. There are 4 skill areas we concentrate on in MFL, and these are listening, speaking, reading & writing.
In Year 8 students continue with German and have 3 lessons a week. They will cover the topics of travel, holidays and food. They will also learn different tenses. The type of homework they will be expected to complete will be the same as in Year 7, but will be often more complicated. Students choose their options during the course of Year 8.

The course has recently been updated to include contemporary topics such as the use of new technologies and social media, and requires students to become increasingly confident and analytical in their use of German structures.
