Design & Technology


Cooking and Nutrition
Students are taught the following topics: Cooking and Nutrition, Looking at the Eatwell guide and knowing the different types of nutrients and their functions. Making products that show a variety of cooking skills – Baking: bread, muffins, Boiling: Pasta and using the hob, working with raising agents- Yeast and baking powder. Knife skills: peeling and cutting. Students are exposed to all parts of the cooker- hob, grill and main oven. 

Product Design
Students are taught the following topics: Plastics and Woods, including environmental impacts, cutting, shaping and forming, health and safety 

Students are taught the following topics: Culture and identity, Biomimicry, repeating pattern, a range of decorative techniques including stencilling and batik, weaving, introduction to the sewing machine and construction techniques. 


Art and Design (Textiles) BTEC

Assessment: The Hospitality and Catering Industry – 40% Paper based assessment or on screen External and Hospitality 90mins and 90 marks and Catering in Action internally assess coursework 60%. External brief.
