Key Stage 4 Curriculum Details:

BTEC Business Studies is the equivalent to one GCSE. The course requires students to complete 4 units of coursework across Years 10–11. There is one externally assessed exam unit which covers the topic of Finance for Business. Other current units include Human Resources, Promotion and Branding and Enterprise.

BTEC Business Studies can be picked as an option by Year 8 students. The course starts in Year 9 and the first year of the course covers core foundation topics such as: industrial sectors, types of business, how businesses are structured, communication, and aims and objectives. Current Year 9 (2017) will be starting the new BTEC Tech Award in Enterprise. It offers students the chance to learn about businesses in the real world and consider how they work. Students will learn key skills that they can use in their working lives.

Key Stage 5 Curriculum Details:

We offer a broad business based curriculum at KS5. Students can opt for A Level Business Studies and BTEC Business Studies Level 3.

A Level Business Studies looks at different types of organisations that exist in various business sectors and environments. It will identify and investigate different internal and external business problems and behaviour. This subject lays the foundation for further study of business or related subjects in higher education and a wide range of careers including accountancy, business, management and self-employment.

BTEC National Award in Business is equivalent to one A level. Students will develop a range of specialist skills and knowledge that will equip them both for work and/or university. BTEC Business is a practical, work-related course which students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. In year 1 students will complete 1 coursework unit Exploring Business and 1 externally assessed exam, Developing a Marketing Campaign. In year 2 students will complete an examination in Business and Personal Finance and a final unit of internally assessed coursework.
